Cutting and Coding Car Keys
Vehicle keys are the core of what Auto Locksmith does, and most of this work is finished at the kerbside rather than on a workbench. A key snapped off in the ignition, a fob that has stopped talking to the car, a boot lid closed on the only set — each has a different fix, and the technician who arrives carries the cutting gear and the diagnostic kit for all of them.
Hand us a working key and we can copy and code a spare while you wait. With no key at all, we read the vehicle's immobiliser data, cut a fresh blade to the lock or the key code, and pair the new transponder to the car before we pack up.
Keys We Work With
- Genuine remote keys
- Smart keys
- Aftermarket non-remote keys
- Transponder and electronic keys
- Key fob programming and repairs
- Ignition repairs and replacements
Programming Done at the Roadside
The diagnostic equipment travels in the van, plugs into the vehicle's OBD port and writes new transponder and remote keys straight to the immobiliser on the makes and models that allow it. That usually spares you the tow to a dealership and the wait for a key to be ordered in, and it means the car leaves under its own power on the same call-out.
Keys shut inside, or gone altogether? Tell us the make, model and year and we will arrive with the right blank.

What Happens When You Call Us Out
Waiting beside a locked car is the kind of problem that only gets worse the longer it lasts, so vehicle calls are treated as urgent at any hour of the night. Doors are opened with wedges and reach tools rather than force, and we ask to see something showing the car is yours — a licence disc, registration papers, an ID that matches — before a lock is touched or a key is coded.
Our technicians work every day on the marques common on the roads aroundJohannesburg, Gauteng, from European hatchbacks and Japanese bakkies through to Korean crossovers and American pickups. A few models still keep key coding behind the manufacturer's own network, and when yours is one of them you will hear it on the phone rather than after we arrive.
